Project Goals
The Christmas Tree Documentary is a long term project designed to support the communities we are working with and to honor the labor that allows us to celebrate the holiday season.
Partners
Our partners range from Q' Pasa Appalachia and Immigrant Connection of the High Country to the North Carolina Christmas Tree Association and the North Carolin a Agricultural Extension Service Our goal is to encourage dialogue to create healthy and just communities.
Principles
First, do no harm.
This film looks beyond simple stereotypes to honor the complexity of the daily life of farm workers and growers. Our intent is to portray all participants as fully human and not just shallow symbols of a certain ideology or identity.
Our production process is designed to ensure that our work will minimize risk to people who are participating in the documentary. The project co-directors are following the ethical guidelines published in the Documentary Accountability Working Group’s Framework for Values, Ethics, and Accountability in Documentary Filmmaking.
We started by assessing aspects of our project that may present potential harm to participants and actions we can take to minimize risk. Consent and transparency are important tools we use to provide participants the information they need to decide if they want to participate in this project.
Our goal is to provide everyone who participates in the project access to their interviews, photographs, and video footage. This material will be shared in informal, intimate settings to facilitate participants sharing their questions, ideas, and concerns. Each of these steps is important to ensure that we minimize risk to people who are participating in his project.
